Description

The single flower opens rose-red with a light-yellow center. The clean pigments are vivid and more pronounced in cool spring weather, showing in shades of watermelon red to deep rose-red. Two rows of broad petals form a wide cup that holds a large cluster of yellow stamens. The short filaments are light yellow, baring stamens in a relatively dense cluster without obscuring a set of carpels. These carpels are pale green and tipped with rose red stigmas. The gynoecium is formed normally, fertile and will occasionally set seed. Altogether it is a fine flower which is of well-tailored, formal shape and good substance. The semi-dwarf bush exhibits a good plant habit. It is vigorous, somewhat slow to increase but grows into a dense small bush after a few years of planting. It is a reliable bloomer, covering the plant with an ample amount of color. The medium size blooms are born near the dark green foliage, imparting a well-proportioned, pleasing display. Self-supporting, thick stems are erect and well covered in deep green foliage. The foliage remains attractive for most of the summer. The bush holds its shape well against inclement weather events and staking is not required. It is an adorable little peony well suited for a focal point in the near sunny border.

Basic Growing Requirements
Full Sun. Water as needed, sensitive to over-watering and waterlogged conditions. Soil pH 6.5-7. Fertile, well-draining soil.
