Description

The semi-double flower opens deep red shades with a yellow center. The bright pigment is clear throughout, retaining most of its brilliance until petals drop. The near spectrum red color is more pronounced in a cool spring, attaining a nearly blood red shade, an uncommon color in a peony flowering at this season. Broad outer petals surround rows of segments that grade successively smaller toward the center of yellow stamens, small segments and carpels. The substantial flower is of a pleasing, well-tailored form. This peony has a satisfying plant habit and increases well, growing a large clump within a few years of planting. It is vigorous and a good bloomer with ample color on a substantial, tall bush. The flower is presented relatively high above the foliage and the long stem spreads with the opened bloom, especially if subjected to rain. Overall, the bush keeps its form well enough and light support typically is sufficient when flowered in the viewed landscape. The bush is well-covered with glossy, deep green foliage. Leaflets remain green well into summer here in NW Missouri. It is an eye-catcher in the landscape garden.
