The large, full double flower opens ruby red that soon fades to rose in the sun. The ruby red pigment is more pronounced and retains its brilliance longer, in cool spring climate. The large outer petals enclose many layers of segments toward the center, forming a showy, high build bloom. Altogether, a well-tailored, formal peony flower that is of heavy substance. The bush has a fair plant habit, it is vigorous and good increase and produces a broad, tall bush within a few years of planting. It is a dependable bloomer that yields an ample number of high-quality stems. The sprawling bush does not hold its form and the long stems sag with the heavy flower. For presentation in the perennial border, this variety requires heavy mechanical support. The bush is well-clad in deep, dark green foliage, the leaflets pointed and nearly oval remain healthy well into the fall here in NW Missouri. This professional grade cutter furnishes fine stems for the vase and it is a good choice for the cut flower garden and commercial applications.
