Description

The single flower opens in a vivid, soft lavender color. The bright color is more intense in cool spring weather and soon fades to paler lavender shades in the sun. Two rows of broad petals surround a yellow cluster of stamens and a set of pale carpels tipped with rose-red, nearly purple stigmas. The filaments are rose red at the base, the color changes to yellow near the stamens imparting an unusual, yet pleasing contrast of colors. The large flower is of good form and substance. The bush is vigorous and the increase is perhaps a bit slow here in Missouri. It will grow to a medium high, verdant bush after a few years. The bush is quite dense and nicely mounded. The wiry stem bares one flower close enough to the foliage for a trim and neat appearance. The bonze-colored stems are nicely covered with medium green foliage, the underside of the leaves is gray-green. The stems are self-supporting and the bush keeps its form well against inclement weather. It performs quite well in NW Missouri but apparently is more difficult to grow further south from here. This variety graces the garden with an early dash of color at a time when it is most wanted. It is a great choice for the near flower border.

Basic Growing Requirements
Full Sun. Water as needed, sensitive to overwatering and waterlog conditions. Soil pH 6.5-7. Fertile, well-draining soil.
